For those of you who don't know, I'm looking for work. My current appointment ends at the end of May, and I haven't filled it yet. I have an interview lined up tomorrow for a position that I'm actually excited about, so keep your fingers crossed. It does seem like a pretty good time to look for jobs, though. For example:
World Bank OKs Wolfowitz as New President
and
Iraq's Chalabi, Former Pentagon Ally, Named Acting Oil Minister
I sure hope I get something good.

The other day, when President Bush said, "I urge the Senate to put politics aside and confirm John Bolton to the United Nations," I wondered what exactly he was saying. After all, Bolton's confirmation was being held up not just by Democrats, but by Republicans as well. So, I thought, he wasn't saying what he wanted people to hear - put aside partisan politics - but stop the business of politics all together and just do what he says. Goodbye representative republic, hello dictatorship. Of course, as soon as I thought it I chuckled - what a radical idea, that a U.S. government leader would really hold the democratic process in such contempt.
Today, though, another curious event in Washington, D.C.
Reacting to a Democratic offer in the fight over filibusters, Republican leader Bill Frist said Tuesday he isn't interested in any deal that fails to ensure Senate confirmation for all of President Bush's judicial nominees.

Frist is not interested in debate. He's not interested in compromise. Once again, a Republican leader calls for the will of the people to bend to the will of one man. This is, I'm afraid, becoming a troubling trend.

I couldn't write material this good
Former Republican Congressman turned cable TV talk show host, Joe Scarborough, says terrorism and murder are a blessing for President Bush.
In fact, [Bush] will only be helped by further terror attacks and civilian murders.
With every new terror strike, George W. Bush only grows stronger.
Your Republican Party - thankful for terror attacks and civilian murders.

This is what a terrorist looks like

Abortion clinics around the US are "bracing for attacks" after convicted murderer and Olympic bomber Eric Rudolph issued a "manifesto" justifying attacks against such clinics and their workers. Associated Press reports that federal officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are calling US clinics to make sure their security is up to date.

From the Irony Files...
Rumsfeld warns Iraqis against cronyism
By Chris Johnston, Times Online
Donald Rumsfeld, the US Defence Secretary, warned Iraqi politicians today not to purge the security forces and stack the ranks with their own men.
Lack of confidence or corruption in government would be "unfortunate", Mr Rumsfeld said in Baghdad today on a short and unannounced visit to Iraq.
